Site Overview
Cho Byeongok served as a police chief during the U.S. military government period and the early days of the Republic of Korea government, and is regarded as the figure who spearheaded the hardline suppression policy during the Jeju April 3rd.
Cheonan City (then Cheonan County) restored Dr. Cho Byeongok's birthplace in 1995 to honor his life and spirit and establish it as a historical site for future generations to emulate. They erected a monument titled "You cannot burn down the thatched cottage to kill the bedbugs."
