Site Overview

Until the village was destroyed during the April 3rd massacre, it was a small community where about ten households lived in harmony, making their living through farming and livestock raising. The village of Dogona was completely burned down around November 20, 1948. After that, the villagers hid in Mount Halla during the day and returned to huts near their homes at night. Although the neighborhood was rebuilt starting in the spring of 1949 during the reconstruction of Bonggae-dong, this village was not rebuilt.

Nowadays, most of the sites have been turned into orchards or retention ponds, making it difficult to find any traces of them.. Although it is only a small portion, we can identify a section of the bamboo grove as the likely site of the former house.
